Ghosts

“Ghosts are guilt, ghosts are secrets, ghosts are regrets and failings. But most times, most times a ghost is a wish.”

This is my interpretation of what it feels like to be surrounded by the ghosts of your mind. Cornered, unable to move, drowning, numbing yourself to make them -unsuccessfully- go away.

Frozen in time, space, and mind, we believe that if we are as still as possible, they won’t come close to us, they won’t harm us.

The reality is that they can’t. They are just floating around us, they are not monsters with sharp claws and fangs, they are nothing but simple fish swimming around us, waiting for us to turn our back to come closer, and grace us with the reminder of that day when everything changed, or the regret of the things unsaid, or the haunting memory of a lost love.

In that sense, sharp claws and fangs sound like a much safer alternative.
